How To Keep DLL Errors At Bay

Did you know that on average a computer that is prone to errors loses up to ten hours of productivity every time it encounters an error? That is a lot of hours for anyone and particularly if you depend on computers for earning your living. In addition to the lost time, you also end up spending money on getting errors resolved by an expert. So in all, a computer error can be a pretty expensive proposition for anyone.

There are two ways of working around this problem. One is to learn how to solve the computer problems yourself. The other option, which is far more practical and easier to implement is to prevent computer errors from occurring in the first place. While it is impossible to avoid all errors, most of the common errors such as DLL errors can be kept at bay.

In this article, we explain steps you can follow to prevent DLL errors from occurring.

Do not delete any shared DLL file when uninstalling a program or application

When performing an uninstallation, take care not to delete any essential shared DLL file as this may cause a DLL error every time another program tries to access this DLL file. If you notice you have started receiving DLL errors, such as the owssupp.dll or npswf32.dll error soon after you uninstalled a program, reinstall this program again to rectify the error. When you install a program, all files that are required by the program are installed on your system. So your missing DLL will be restored, resolving the missing DLL error. You may uninstall the program again, however, this time choose to retain the shared DLL files when prompted by the uninstallation processes.

Do not overwrite a current version of a DLL file with an older version when performing a new installation

It is important that you do not overwrite a current version of a DLL with an older version as this may make the DLL file incompatible with other applications or programs that may require this DLL file.

Update your drivers, software and operating system regularly

Outdated files are a common cause of DLL errors. This is the reason why it is imperative that you keep your drivers, software and operating system up-do-date with the latest hotfixes, patches and security releases that are regularly released by their vendors. Doing so not only prevents DLL and other computer errors, but also improves your system’s overall security and performance.

Install a reliable protective tool on your computer

Use an advanced protective suite to secure your system and prevent errors, including DLL errors that get generated due to malware infection. Malicious programs, such as virus, worms, trojans and spyware are not only a security threat that can cause many different types of system errors they also adversely affect the performance of your system.

Keep your system registry free of unwanted information

Invalid or missing DLL entries within the registry may also generate DLL errors on your system. The registry is an important component of your system as it contains references of all important files, including DLLs. An effective way of keeping your registry clean and healthy is by performing regular registry scans, using a reliable registry cleaning utility to remove all the unwanted and invalid information that gets accumulated in it.
