Should I upgrade to Windows 8? In Short..Probably Not.

Windows 8 is here and everybody asks if they should run out to the store and upgrade their system. Before you do so, there are a few things you need to consider. Aside from the faster boot up time, Windows 8 is built on the Windows 7 infrastructure.  If you are using a tablet or touch screen, it is a good choice for an operating system however, the app store is not all that populated yet. You will find many more apps in the Android market at this time. As time goes on, Microsoft will add a lot more apps to the variety but it will take some time.

If you are planning on using Windows 8 on your conventional PC, you might want to think twice before upgrading. If you are upgrading an XP machine, please consider that you will loose most of your settings and programs when you perform the upgrade. In addition, you will have to be sure your hardware is compatible with the new OS. If your XP machine is newer and is capable of running Windows 7, it will work with Windows 8. If your XP machine is older and is still running good, keep the XP operating system, as it is one of the best Microsoft has ever come out with.  If the system has slowed down a bit over the years, getting a professional cleaning is the ticket to a longer life for your existing operating system.

If you currently have a Windows 7 machine, again I do not recommend you run out and upgrade to Windows 8.  Windows 7 is a great operating system that works well with a standard PC. Windows 8 introduces a lot of annoying features that actually make it irritating to use. Many of the consumer ratings on this operating system are not all that good and I personally know of several that are ready to return it just days after buying new computers with it installed. One of the most annoying things about the OS is the fact that it has no Start menu. There is no easy way to access your settings and programs. You have to use a thing called the Charm Bar to navigate from your Desktop to your App page in order to access many of your programs and apps. Shame on Microsoft for trying to make this new operating system as uncomfortable to use as possible.

If you are looking to buy a new PC for Christmas consider these facts. If you want a touch screen tablet, Windows 8 will be a good choice. Remember, however, that you will find more apps in a Galaxy Android device. If you are buying a conventional desktop PC, stick with Windows 7. If the place you are shopping at does not offer a Windows 7 option go to a place that will. You can get a good selection of Windows 7 machines at Best Buy and some even better deals at TigerDirect.com. Amazon is another great place to shop for a PC. Many places are not giving you a choice and only offering you Windows 8. If what you want is Windows 7, do not let them talk you into using 8, shop elsewhere.
