It is again Microsoft Path Tuesday and this time around we have the first round of Windows updates for the new Windows 8 operating system. Yes, it just came out and the updates are already rolling in. In addition, there are updates for all other operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 7.
All the updates I tested today went in without incident and it should be safe tp allow them all. All the updates are considered critical and they all close security holes that could allow an attacker to gain access to your system.
Once you install the updates, you will have to researt your computer in order for the updates to complete their installation.
Some of the key updates include Microsoft Net Framework , the core operating system and Internet Explorer. If you have automatic updates turned on, the patches should download and install automatically. If not, you should go to Microsoft Update and manually download and install the fixes.
While checking your updates, it is also a good time to double check your security software and be sure that it is also up to date and operating properly. We use and recommend the FREE Microsoft Security Essentials software. It is much lighter and just as efficient as the heavy paid solutions.
